A few weeks ago, Kelsey and I decided to attend a Secret Supper that some creatives throw here in Portland. The theme and location were a secret until 24 hours prior. Being a crisp and chilly December day, the Scandinavian theme at the Colony in St John's provided a perfect back drop. Cocktails flowed and each course tasted better than the last. And that salmon bisque? I'll take another, please.

The other weekend, Kelsey and I had the pleasure of attending a single-day workshop put on by Bloguettes called Instacamp held at the Saguaro Hotel in Palm Springs. Throughout the day, we had breakout sessions that taught things like Portrait + Lifestyle, Landscape, Styling, Branding and Editing. I know what you're thinking, and yes I was in heaven! Learning about the power of social media and how it relates to your brand was fascinating. How to connect with your audience, how to reach the audience you want, how to have a consistent voice across your work and across all social platforms. Anyways, I could go on and on. But I'll let the photos do the talking!

Last month, I took a little trip down to Palm Springs with a dear friend of mine. Now this is the part where I'll be very transparent: we just lost my mom to brain cancer in January. It was the hardest 2 year battle I've ever experienced, and I pray that no one ever has to go through what we just went through. That being said, my family (Dad and Sister) has been closer than close. There's nothing we don't share, all emotions are out on the table. We ask for what we want/need/depend on from each other and all pitch in.

I will say, this experience has really made me feel more open and honest as a person, friend, daughter and sister. It's made me evaluate the friendships that I have; which ones I grow from which ones I could do without. It's made me ask for what I need from people and be upfront with my feelings. And one of those things was a trip to Palm Springs to escape from reality, have something to look forward to, a sunny place to lay by the pool.

It provided just that. I even found myself feeling Happy, truly happy, a feeling I hadn't experienced in a while. It just felt good. So let this be a lesson to you all, don't let something major or terrible happen before you to ask for what you want in life. Go get it right now, because there's no time like the present!
